so recently i joined the school mma club and had a pankration fight with a guy that preferred stand-up. the match was basically me trying to get him to the ground and him doing a relatively good job at avoiding that and striking me at the same time.
this encounter has led me to learn that there's much more to fighting than absolute strength; speed, power, coordination, endurance, intelligence, and fighting spirit are all contributing attributes (at the minimum).
i've since revised my exercise regime:
mon, thur:
strikes
strength
(oap, oac, pistol, ab roller, coc)
tues, fri:
strikes
power
(plyo pushups, plyo pullups, spin jumps)
my strikes target an expensive punching bag (a flat basketball in multiple plastic bags, tied to a rope, tied to my pullup bar). diy at its best.
i'm also planning to make a grappling dummy over spring break. more news on that to come on that.
